Lead Me Home

Lead Me Home is the most personal song I've written. It tells the story of a night I got a call telling me to get home — a long 1600 mile car journey lay ahead that night, with Brucie (our Newfoundland dog) beside me, hoping and praying I would arrive in time to say goodbye to my wife. It's about holding her hand, speaking her name, and sharing those final precious moments together. It's about the heartbreak of losing the person who brought so much love and happiness into my life. But it's also about what happened afterwards. The sunshine as we said goodbye. The stories we shared. The laughter through our tears. And Brucie, who somehow found a way to make us smile when our hearts were breaking. I wrote this song because some love never leaves us. It lives in the memories, the ordinary moments, the roads we travel, and the quiet spaces in our hearts that belong to one person forever. “Though I had to let you go, your love will always lead me home.” This song is for my late wife. Thank you for the love, the memories, and the life we shared. Wherever the road takes me, you will always be part of my journey. Forever in my heart.

Lyrics

I sit in the silence, thinking of you, Wondering what I'm meant to do. I miss your smile, your beautiful eyes, And all the love you brought to my life. The road was hard, the miles were long, With Brucie beside me, I carried on. I raced through the night, fear in my heart, Praying I'd reach you before you'd depart. I held your hand and spoke your name, Hoping you could hear me through the pain. Through misted eyes, I looked at you, One final moment, just me and you. You're the heart of the journey, The light that carries me. When the road is long and hope feels gone, You're walking here with me. Through every shadow, every tear, I close my eyes and feel you near. Though I had to let you go, Your love will always be in me. You slipped away with the ones you loved, Each of us giving all we could. We left that room with broken hearts, Knowing you had slipped through my arms. The sun came out as we said goodbye, We shared our stories, we laughed and cried. Brucie barked and made us smile, And lifted the sorrow, just for a while… Inside my heart, I've got a space, A vault of love no time can take. I see the light beyond the door, And feel you near me evermore. You're the heart of the journey, The light that sets me free. When the road is long, your love stays strong, Still walking here in me. Through every shadow, every tear, I know that you are always near. Though I had to let you go, Your love will always lead me home. Every step, every memory, You'll always be a part of me. My dearest love, wherever I go, You are the heart that I needed to know.
